With
lofty, 'infinite oneness' being beyond gender, societies since the
dawn of time have named the unnamable, each culture in its own words:
God, Allah, Brahma, Jehovah, Yahweh, Emptiness, Goddess, Universal
Consciousness etc... many of those 'names' originally not implying
gender. Nonetheless institutionalized religion largely confined 'god'
in the male stereotype. Fundamentalists are happy with this. But the
traditional churches are being forced to open to new ideas as the
pews grow emptier; increasingly, people are relating to an entirely
personal spiritual life.
Freed from religious constraint, we now talk about consciousness,
presence, perception and deeper meanings. We share spiritual insights,
question tradition and talk about our inner experiences. We discuss
spirituality incafes, at home and on the internet. Ordinary people
are writing on spiritual life, revealing deeply personal experiences
and exploring new ideas.
The Divine Names are one such idea - creative 'play' with the
word 'god'. They are like 'reverse acronyms' on the word 'god' - not
pronounceable words in themselves, but the suggestion of 'god' shines
through in a new light. They fall into two distinct categories: one
descriptive and one experiential.
You are welcome to use the Divine Names as a practical tool,
for play, or for reflection on various aspects of the divine. The
names include male & female energies, but go beyond the usual
stereotyped associations. Share them with your family or community,
in discussion or as games. We elaborate on two of the Divine Names
below to give an example of activities that could be developed. Pick
from the list, and have fun! Please respect copyright by not using
the Divine Names for monetary gain.

~ Gentle Omnipresent

Let's look at 'god' as gentleness and
receptiveness. Such gentleness is easily ignored, overlooked.
We overlook planet Earth. We forget that the divine embodies
gentleness as well as greatness. We tend to overlook our own
gentle side. To heal we need to reside more in our gentleness,
being quietly receptive to divinity, trusting life as a perfect
spiritual process, and resisting the relentless pressure to
do, to achieve, to be noticed: such pressure lures the ego to
become too active and dominant. Gentle Omnipresent Divinity
can balance Doing with Being. |

from your subconscious when you need it. Let the song gift
softness, an all-surronding, divine presence.

Surround
yourself in Light... You are safe, relaxed and warm... Feel
the gentle presence of divinity around you... Receive
this soft presence... Let it seep in and nurture your soul,
healing your wounds, comforting and refreshing you... For now
there is nothing you need do but receive the blessings, drinking
in the beautiful softness surrounding you... It floats like
a feather on the most gentle of breezes, touching your being
every moment ~ in the air ~ and in the beauty of nature... Gentle
Omnipresent Divinity: always present as a soft, living Light
in all beings... This transparent radiance permeates all things...
It is in you, and in the very air around you...
Gentle Omnipresent Divinity soothes your being... Breathe
it in... Sink into a beautiful, divine presence... Gentle
Omnipresent Divinity... |

Invocation
|
|
Silently
bring Gentle Omnipresent Divinity to mind as an invocation.
Call for a soft, divine presence to embrace you. Call confidently
from your own will, rather than a pleading kind of prayer. When
we grow our ability to affirm the divine, we find it increasingly
easy to feel it. Try repeating Gentle Omnipresent Divinity,
finding a rhythm and breathing that works for you. |

Taking
it In -
not Taking
it On
|
It's
relatively easy to tune into gentleness when the energy around
us is positive, but what if it isn't? Here is a method of feeling
Gentle Omnipresent Divinity while negative energy is
being directed at you: processing the negativity, not taking
it on board.
Step 1 - Spiritual Protection
Either practice the method of spiritual protection according
to your path, (e.g. protection prayers or invocations, reciting
the Name,etc.). Or imagine yourself surrounded by light as a
force-field; no harmful energy can get through, and your positive
energy does not leak out. Tell your higher self to hold that
field around you while you are engaged in the activities to
come.
Step 2 - Taking it In, not On
Invoke your protection and breathe in and out as you mentally
repeat Gentle Omnipresent Divinity. Let everything be
as it is and everyone who they are (unless it's clear that you
must take urgent action). Take the negative energy they are
directing at you into the light that protects you. You can even
breathe it in affirming that it is not going to affect you;
the negativity is going to be transmuted in this light. As you
breathe in, the light comes into you as an energy-supply for
your heart, and your heart is like a divine generator. Instead
of generating electricity, it generates gentleness and compassion.
The negative energy is transmuted into compassion. Breathe out
this gentle compassion to those who are troubled, to nourish
you and them. You are not depleted and their problem has been
'brought to light.' |
|
Let
Gentle Omnipresent Divinity heal emotional wounds and open
new doors within. Feeling gentleness relaxes the body and mind.
We feel safe knowing we're not going to be hurt or pushed. From
there trust wells up: trust that the divine is here, and trust
in ourselves. We can expand, accepting all life as it is, including
pleasure and pain. Living in gentleness, our manner changes.
We're more aware and in control of our actions. Our voices are
sweeter. We notice and take care of all the small things. We
do not cause pain to others. The circle is closed as we realize
we are at peace and reflecting our spirituality. |

~ Great One
Divine
~ |
|
Oneness manifests in duality as opposing
energies. Great One Divine is the majestic, energizing,
outgoing aspect; the positive energy that protects and strengthens.
Great One Divine inspires us to be great and strong
It encourages, inspires and guides us. The 'Great One' holds
mystery, which implies understanding beyond our own. It is a
splendid, powerful energy which 'puts us in our place.' It has
also been referred to as 'The Great Spirit.' Today we're in
the process of reclaiming our greatness and power in the light
of a balanced spiritual vision. This balance could see the end
of war. The thought of world peace gives hope for the whole
of humanity. |

your eyes and breathe deeply... Imagine an exhilarating current
of energy flowing through the cells of your body... This energy
protects you... inspires you, flooding you with loving motivation
to do good in the world... Breathe it out... This energy revitalizes
you... You feel fully awake and alive... You are growing in
confidence and strength... All is well and everything is possible
....Stay in this feeling as long as you like... When you are
ready, open your eyes... The Great One Divine is alive
in you and in everything around you... In happiness, you make
your contribution... and send your inspiration out across the
world. |
| Silently
repeat Great One Divine in your mind and heart, ideating
on the qualities described above. Find what rhythm and breathing
works for you. |
| Great
One Divine can heal feelings
of oppression, through celebrating divinity as healing, exhilarating,
and life-giving. This energy exists in equal measure to receptive,
gentle energy. Both work in perfect balance in the healing process.
Focusing on this greatness - so great that nothing is outside
of it - we realize we too are part of it, and that this great
force protects us. The feeling of protection and safety is essential
to the healing process. We take refuge in this great protector
knowing we'll be guided to heal. We then identify with this
energy in ourselves. We magnify the energy and in turn it strengthens
us. |
